SS Simon and Jude’s was the first school to join the Vantage Academies Trust. It was here that our trust’s core approach to school improvement and learning was first developed. The school – which in 2008 was seriously underperforming – was rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in 2016. We are proud to be a National Support School and to have won a number of national awards.
The staff and children have worked hard to build an exceptional learning environment – including introducing the International Primary Curriculum to every classroom and learning Key Stage. SS Simon and Jude’s is an ‘IPC Mastering’ school, which means our curriculum provision is judged by the IPC to be of the highest standard. The school also introduced the Kagan approach for co-operative teaching and learning in every classroom. Indeed, both the IPC and Kagan are now delivered in every classroom across the trust.
We have a very dedicated staff team – from our team of high quality teachers through to the dedicated learning mentor who support parents and children with a range of issues on a daily basis. We have a number of ‘expert’ teachers who, as well as providing our children with exceptional learning opportunities, now also train and develop their colleagues in other schools across the trust.
The children are very proud of their school, and have played a big part in developing the inspiring displays and activities – including our recent ‘travel show’ fair, which many parents also attended. Everyone at the school has high expectations for themselves and for one another. The trust’s assertive mentoring scheme was first used here and has enabled children, parents, and teachers to stay in touch on each child’s progress in areas such as learning, behaviour, attendance, and presentation. No child is overlooked, and every child is supported to succeed.
We have a strong Christian ethos, whilst celebrating diversity and the importance of enabling people from a wide range of backgrounds to succeed together. We are deeply committed to supporting others, including through sharing our practice with other schools and children in the trust.
My brain gets bigger every day with all the learning we do in school.
I like all the children and teachers in our school – all the children are happy children. We have all got special partners in class and our friends – this makes me feel safe and happy.
“We are a community of people who share one vision: to give children the very best start in life. Our children are happy learners and we want to ensure they build upon that passion for learning both now and in the future. Every day at SS Simon and Jude is a special day.”
“Pupils are inspired to learn through the relevant and contemporary curriculum. Throughout the inspection, pupils proudly and eagerly shared their work, demonstrating a thirst to broaden their knowledge and understanding.”
